CH-HT12/F The Windsock can indicate the direction of the final approach and takeoff, while a general indication of the wind speed can be made. According to ICAO, at least one wind sock must be provided for each airport. Its mounting position is chosen to ensure that it is not blown dry by nearby objects or rotors and must be clearly visible over at least 200 m.  Can also be used on oil rigs and chemical plants for emergency services assistance in the event of an incident by providing wind direction details for the fire service who attend site.
